Mercernary - So sorry, that's awfully sad.

It's strange how a footballer can have such an effect on those of us who never actually saw them play, bar the clips and highlights. Even now I'm angry at how Club and Country cast him aside, like many others, and only when he died did the naming of stands and statues gets rolled out. Bobby should have been at the very least an Ambassador for England and West Ham.

He's the reason why I support West Ham.

The moment I was told he had passed still feels just like yesterday. Poignantly it was my wife who told me that he'd died tragically young at 51 years old, and then she herself only made it to 50. Just like him also dying in February.

Rest in peace the both of them.

Yeah the Wolves game will never leave me. I've never felt such emotion even at family funerals. The minutes silence was haunting.

Well worth a read and a reread for a reminder of what a great and revered player and man he was.

Got speaking to a group of Mancs… Blue and Red… must have been around the 40-50 year old mark by the gates who came down… brought their scarves and were visibly upset… couple of Boro fans as well… that game is absolutely etched my memory… like it was yesterday

NS

Yeah, first time (outside of a funeral) I'd seen grown men crying, very emotional day.

On the way back from an away game in the 60s with my Dad, on a station platform, Bobby gave me his evening paper. Wish I knew where it was! The memory of that Wolves game after he died, when a group of Wolves fans climbed over the perimeter wall to lay a wreath of their own in the centre circle, still makes me emotional - even now, as I type.

Met him a few times... as a youngster in his sports shop (Dad knew him... Bobby would even chuck in a few sew on patches for the claret and blue tracky I just had bought for a birthday treat)... also met him in Southend a few times when he was managing... always saw him driving down the A127 in his jag as well..

The Wolves game was an incredible game... loads of other fans from other clubs came down for the day to pay their respects... some in absolute tears

I met him on a few occasions.

Oh Dear Snr knew him well.

Amongst other things they played in the same squash ladder at Wanstead Squash Club. (as an aside Wanstead Squash Club was owned by the Cearns Family)

I’d go along to watch the squash and after all the games were finished all the players in the ladder would stand around the snooker room for a social.

I said to my dad on the way home evening, “Booby Moore doesn’t say a lot does he” my dad replied “He doesn’t need to say anything, he’s Bobby Moore”

Dad reckoned he was the most genuine person you could ever meet. He had every masculine attribute you would want and none of the ones that you wouldn’t want. A proper man.

If things go pear shaped against Forest, it would be very fitting to sing about how great he was, instead of turning nasty on players getting instructed to play anti-football.....he was the shining example of a lot of the footballing standards we once had.....

We went to see my Nan in Canning Town that weekend and my Dad took us over to pay our respects by the gates by all the flowers and scarves.

Found a photo we took in a box of stuff at my parents house recently - it was certainly a sad day for the east end.

RIP Bobby - our number 6

I remember going to Upton Park early the day he died and tying a scarf to the fence. There were a few other scarves and flowers laid, I went back a day or two later and I’ve never seen so many tributes and from supporters of other teams too. Bobby was loved in this country and is someone we all should be proud to say was a Hammer and the greatest of them all.

I'll never forget that game against Wolves, an astonishingly poignant minute's silence. And the incredible display of flowers outside.

Thanks, One Iron. 30 years ago, unreal really. When you surpass the age Bobby was when he died it really does make it hit home how young he still was.

RIP.
